“We’ll always have Paris”

“Here’s looking at you kid.”

“Louis, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.”

Synopsis and Recommendation

Directed by Michael Curtiz and premiered in 1942, Casablanca tells the tale of two lovers reuniting after being apart for years in the backdrop of World War 2. This movie stars Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, and Paul Henreid. Out of 11 nominations for the Oscars, Casablanca won 3. In 1944: the Academy Award for Best Picture, the Academy Award for Best Writing (Adapted Screenplay), and the Academy Award for Best Director.

A married woman, under the impression that her husband was forever gone, had an affair with Rick in Paris before the Nazis took it over and the couple was separated. It wasn’t until fate brought her directly into Rick’s path that they met once more, but she did not come into his bar alone.

This is an unforgettable movie. The soundtrack, the quotes, the heartbreaking yet inspiring and uplifting ending. It is by far one of my absolute favorite films. I must have watched this film dozens of times, it will never get old and it will never become obsolete. Movies like these make me yearn for the days when good productions took place, for after watching such a masterpiece, it is unbearably hard and perhaps impossible to become content with the trash that flirts upon so many screens across the world. I highly recommend it, but it seems to be too light a phrase to convey how much I adore this film and wish for everyone to have a similar experience as the one I am so fortunate to have had with this film.
